BODY ELECTRIC
and the microcosmic being of a thing
Body Electric is an investigation of how the human body interfaces with the bodies of nature – in which the word body in the latter is to be understood both in the perspective of large scaled cohesive formations of matter, as well as the microcosmic being of a grain.
Jewellery as devices for self-examination and as body extensions acted as prosthetics – making visible in a speculative manner the organ of minerals in motion, exposing the leakage of a body. Furthermore, minerals were collected from human bodies in the form of sweat and tears. These minerals were solidified via crystallization into gemstones in an attempt to grasp the vastness of emotions through their physical debris, and reexperience their vibrancy in a new format.
An interdisciplinary approach to craft and science as important parallel aspects of one another was present throughout the process. As a red thread through this essay lies the struggle of wanting to understand the duplicity in being an emotional being made of flesh, and simultaneously a hard wired electronically steered machine.
